WHY I AM RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION
As a 50-year resident of Lake County I have dedicated a large part of my life to promoting vocational and higher educational opportunities locally. I believe expanding these opportunities is vital to the well-being of our communities. This has been my motivation for serving on the Yuba Community College Board of Trustees for the past two-and-a-half years.
I have actively worked to accomplish the following:
- Ending reliance on interim administrative position at the district and college level.
- Create a new safety plan that provides security staff at Lake County Campus (LCC) 24/7 for the first time.
- Restore vital faculty and staff at LCC including a permanent Dean.
- Install modern signage at the entry to LCC.
- Initiate policy directing trustees to decline pay increases in the absence of employee raises.
- Approve a contract with Part-time Faculty that provides unprecedented health care coverage and takes major steps to achieve pay equity.
- Establish a local LCC advisory group that became an auxiliary to the district Foundation, and arranged Lake County representation on the Foundation Board.
- Facilitate communication between educational and other local leadership with the administration to assess workforce and educational needs.
- Advocate for the return of more face-to-face course offerings and expansion of dual enrollment of Konocti and Middletown Unified School Districts’ students.
Priorities Going Forward:
- Completion of Full-time Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Fire mitigation measures at the Lake County Campus coordinated with KUSD.
- Streamline the admission/registration processes to achieve ease of access.
- Further restore career and educational pathways at the Lake County Campus.
- Continue and expand cooperative relationships with Lake County communities focused on community educational needs.
